
Virginia Waste Industries Association (VWIA) and National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA)
The Virginia Waste Industries Association (VWIA) is a chapter the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA).
NWRA is the national voice for the private-sector waste and recycling industry which is essential to maintaining the quality of American life. VWIA represents NWRA member companies conducting business in Virginia and is committed to the NWRA Statement of Principles.
The delivery of waste and recycling services impacts all residential, commercial and industrial properties on a daily basis.
Association members operate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. VWIA's mission is to promote the management of waste and recyclables in a manner that is environmentally responsible, efficient, profitable, and ethical while benefiting the public and protecting the employees.
We are committed to promoting the use of technology and innovation in meeting the needs of the waste and recycling services industry in a safe and responsible manner.

Statement of Principles
The NWRA and the VWIA support:
Programs and policies that promote the safe, environmentally sound and cost-effective management and diversion of waste and recyclables.
Privatization of all waste and recycling services and opposes displacement of the private sector by governmental entities.
Payment of fair compensation to waste or recycling companies displaced by governmental entities.
Fair and equitable enforcement of local, state and federal regulations applicable to all waste and recycling haulers or facilities whether they are publicly or privately owned.
Education of policymakers and the general public concerning the safe and responsible management of waste and recyclables.
The NWRA and the VWIA oppose:
Federal, state or local laws that prohibit or restrict the disposal of any waste or recyclables that originates in other states or countries.
State or local flow control laws that designate specific disposal facilities for waste or recyclables.
Moratoriums or other bans on the permitting, construction or expansion of disposal facilities (e.g., landfills, transfer stations, treatment facilities, recycling) and governmental efforts to restrict operations at such facilities.
New rate regulation of private sector waste or recycling services.
Unreasonable state or local fees on waste or recycling facilities or services.
